The board of directors of Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) has appointed Rama Kirloskar (31) as joint managing director of the company.

Ms Kirloskar, the daughter of KBL chairman and managing director Sanjay Kirloskar, will lead the company’s domestic small pumps division and valves business.

Her brother Alok Kirloskar, who has been based in London since 2012 and is a KBL director and CEO of Kirloskar Brothers International BV (which includes SPP Pumps Ltd), continues to head all the overseas businesses and leads many technology initiatives at KBL.

The siblings are the fifth generation of the Kirloskar family to take charge of strategically important portfolios at the company.

Ms Kirloskar currently serves as the managing director of Kirloskar Ebara Pumps Ltd (KEPL), a joint venture between KBL and Japan’s Ebara Corp. She was previously general manager and head of product portfolio management at KBL.

She holds a double major in Mathematics and Biology from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, USA. After graduating, she worked at venture capital firm Polaris Partners and at the Koch Institute at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
